Stephen Berman joined CSG in October 2001 as part of CSG’s acquisition of Synergy Capital. Mr. Berman founded Synergy Capital, a broker-dealer and merchant banking firm in 1995. At CSG Mr. Berman co-leads the firm’s turn-around practice and as well as being active in rasing debt and equity capital necessary for growth, acquisitions, recaps, and management-sponsored buyouts for privately-held middle market companies. Prior to founding Synergy, Mr. Berman was the co-founder of Seaport Capital Inc., a merchant banking operation formed in 1992 to make private equity investments and manage the $75 million private equity portfolio of an affiliate of Prudential Securities. He was formerly a Managing Director of Prudential-Bache Interfunding, Inc. (PBIF), the merchant-banking arm of Prudential Securities Incorporated. Mr. Berman co-managed an $800 million fund that made private equity and debt investments in leveraged transactions. PBIF closed transactions with aggregate investments and commitments of $1.4 billion, including $1.2 billion of bridge loans and other debt investments and $200 million in preferred and common equity investments. Mr. Berman has also worked in other investment areas of The Prudential, including participating in over 35 leveraged corporate restructurings, developing portfolio investment strategies in restructurings, and overseeing credit procedures. Mr. Berman has served on the boards of Leewards Creative Crafts, Inc., Dr.Pepper/Seven-Up Companies, Inc., Fairmont Communications and Casfam, Inc. Mr. Berman received a BA from the University of Rochester and an MBA in Finance beta gamma sigma from New York University. |
