Stephen G. Chappell retired in 2004 after 35 years in Bell Labs, AT&T, Lucent and Telcordia. Since then, he served on the Board of Lavastorm Technologies, on the Advisory Board of Tekmark Global Services, LLC and as a consultant to Warburg Pincus, Operax and other clients. In 2005, Mr. Chappell and his wife, Margaret Ann, founded The Stars Challenge (www.starschallenge.org), a non-profit designed to get more children interested in science and technology. From 1997 to 2004, Mr. Chappell served as President of two Groups within Telcordia Technologies. His responsibilities included the Legacy Operations Support Systems, the Network Systems, the Common Language products, Interconnection Systems, Customer Care and Billing Systems, as well as Y2K remediation. When Steve retired, he was responsible for businesses generating about $600M in revenue with significant profitability.
From 1990 to 1997, Mr. Chappell was Vice President and responsible for various businesses within Lucent and AT&T including Network Operations Systems, Operations Systems for Wireless Networks, the Saudi TEP-6 OSS Project, Commercial Applications and Billing Systems. He joined Bell Labs in 1969 and until 1990 held various software R&D positions in Switching, OSS and UNIX. This included roles in commercializing UNIX and C++, developing LMOS, developing high level languages for programming Electronic Switching Systems, and Computer Aided Design for Electronic Switching Systems.
Mr. Chappell has a PhD and MS in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. |
