Stephen Kiely joined Stratus in 1994 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board. Kiely was appointed to the position of Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, when Stratus was purchased from Ascend Communications in February 1999. He was appointed President of the Stratus Enterprise Computer division in August 1998, and had previously served as Vice President of Engineering and Vice President of Platform Products. Kiely held a number of executive positions with information technology companies before coming to Stratus in 1994. His experience includes serving as Vice President, Technology and Products, at EON Corporation, a start-up in the early interactive TV market. He was also Vice President of the application services product unit for Bull Information Systems and CEO of Prisma Computer. Kiely started his career in 1967 as a software engineer with IBM. He concluded his 18-year tenure at IBM as General Manager for the Data Systems Division, where he was responsible for a manufacturing and development facility of 7,000 people and 3,000,000 square feet. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Fairfield University and a master's from the Stanford Graduate School of Business as a Sloan Fellow.
