Experience:
Stephanie Bates serves as Chair of Mayer Brown International LLP's Corporate Finance Special Interest Group in London and co-head of the London office Capital Markets Group. In her nearly 25 years with the firm, she has focused her practice in corporate finance, mergers, and acquisitions. Stephanie has particular experience in IPOs and other corporate fund raising through issues of securities by private and public offerings, underwriting arrangements, rights issues, open offers, note issues and other financings. She also plays a key role advising corporate clients on corporate and business asset combinations (including takeovers, mergers, acquisitions, disposals, and joint ventures), FSMA regulatory matters, corporate governance, and directors' duties.
Chambers & Partners 2006 cited Stephanie as a Leading Individual in corporate matters, declaring that when she handles a transaction, clients "know the deal with be done in an efficient businesslike context." Chambers also selected Stephanie as a Leading Individual in 2005, calling her "super efficient", praising her "calm authority," for always giving "carefully considered advice" combined with an ability to "always take the broader commercial view."

Advising Mellon Financial Services (as was) on its agreement to launch a new asset management business with West LB in 2006. The combined entity, WestLB Mellon Asset Management, has approximately €40 billion in assets under management and around 240 employees.
Advising Bank of New York Mellon Corporation on its purchase of a 50% stake in joint venture company, ABN Amro Asset Management BV, from ABN Amro.
Advising UK housebuilder Persimmon plc on its £643 million takeover of Westbury plc. This was one of the largest M&A deals in the UK housebuilding sector.
Advising Northern Racing plc on a recommended cash offer for it by NR Acquisitions Limited.
Advising Imperial Innovations Group plc, Imperial College's technology commercialization subsidiary, on its IPO and admission of shares to trading on Aim.
