Sora Park Tanjasiri, DrPH, MPH, Fullerton, CA, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at California State University, Fullerton. She has worked in the areas of breast and cervical cancer early detection, with emphasis on the needs of Southeast Asians (Cambodians, Hmong, Laotians, Thais and Vietnamese) and Pacific Islanders (Chamorros, Samoans and Tongans). She also spearheaded a breast cancer needs assessment among Chamarros and Tongans and has been involved in three multi-year projects: 1) a three year breast cancer screening intervention among Chamarro women in Southern California, 2) a three year study of Hmong women's breast cancer screening behaviors in Central and Southern California and 3) a five year CDC-funded effort to increase breast and cervical cancer screening among women in seven communities (Cambodian, Laotian, Samoan, Thai, Tongan and Vietnamese). Ms. Tanjasiri also serves on the board of the Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance and is an advisory member on a national AAPI tobacco control network (Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment and Leadership). |
