Sono Aibe has been with Packard Foundation Population Program since 1996. She is currently overseeing grantmaking in two portfolios: Global Institutions,Global Solutions and Ethiopia. She developed grantmaking strategies for adolescent reproductive health and resource mobilization and initiated grantmaking in the Philippines and Myanmar. Prior to that, she was project officer at the Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) in Tokyo, Japan. There, she comanaged family planning projects in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.
Sono has an A.B. from Harvard University in history of science and a master's in international health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. She is fluent in Japanese and Chinese.
