Sheikh Kabir Hossain, of Dhaka, Bangladesh, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 88th International Convention, held in Hong Kong, June 27-July 1, 2005.
Director Hossain is involved with insurance and a Chinese restaurant.
A Lion since 1976 and a member of the Dhaka Down Town Lions Club, Director Hossain has held many offices within the association, including club president, cabinet treasurer, district chairperson, region chairperson, district governor and council chairperson. In addition, he served as a member of the Bangladesh Lions Foundation, as a district coordinator of the SightFirst Campaign and as a participant in six Southeast Asian Forums, as well as several relief operations.
In recognition of his service to the association Director Hossain has received numerous awards, including an Extension Award, the 100% Attendance Award, the Membership Growth Award, a 20-Year Membership Award, the 100% Club President’s Award, the Guiding Lion Award, the District Governor’s Appreciation Award, the District Governor’s Commendation Award, the District Governor’s Special Club Extension Award, four International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, a Founder Membership Growth Award, three International President’s Leadership Awards, a Presidential Extension Award and two International President’s Medals. He is also a Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lion activities, Director Hossain is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He is a life member of the Bangladesh National Society for Blindness, the Bangladesh Family Planning Association, the Bangladesh Red Crescent/Red Cross Society and the Bangladesh Lions Foundation. He is also vice chairperson of the Islamia Eye Hospital in Dhaka, founder chairperson of the Sheikh Mosharraf Hossain Higher Secondary School and chairperson of the governing body of Sheikh Mujibar Rahman Degree College. In the past, he served as chairperson of the Bangladesh Red Crescent/Red Cross Society and as president of the Ideal College. He also served as founder president of the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College in Dhaka.
Director Hossain and his wife, Masuda, also a Lion, have three children and one grandchild. |
