Prior to joining Phoenix Multicultural, Sharmila was Principal of The Mango Group, a marketing strategy firm she founded in 1997. There she focused on ethnic marketing and strategy consulting projects for a wide range of clients. She was the lead researcher and author for the strategic study entitled .Orienting the US Food & Beverage Market: Strategies for Targeting Asian Americans to 2010. that was produced in conjunction with Promar International in 2000. She has been quoted in several trade journals and newspapers for her expertise in ethnic marketing. Prior to establishing The Mango Group, Sharmila worked for Sonoco Products Company, a global packaging firm. As Strategic Information Manager in its Corporate Strategic Planning Group, she managed global market research programs for the company as a whole and presented, coached, and consulted to many divisions worldwide. Specifically, she traveled to Europe and Australia to provide training on customer satisfaction survey methodologies and on strategic planning processes. She also spent time as a Marketing Manager in the International Business Development Group for Sonoco.s Consumer Products Division. There she led the strategic planning efforts and helped identify and evaluate new market opportunities in both Latin America and Asia. She was also asked to be a member of Sonoco.s Diversity Team. Sharmila has held other marketing positions at DNA Plant Technology Corp. and at IBM. Sharmila holds an MBA in Marketing and Strategic Planning from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Computer Science/Mathematics from the University of Rochester. She is a member of the American Marketing Association. She was born in New Delhi, India. |
