Scott McGregor Biography :

Scott is a skilled designer, with a fine pedigree academic and practical both in software engineering and in design. Alan Cooper, Father of Visual Basic, Founder, Cooper Design, author of "The Inmates are Running the Asylum" Scott McGregor, "the Innovation Guy", is a High Technology Innovation executive with over 25 years of experience leading software development teams in Silicon Valley. McGregor has worked for some of the most well known companies, including Hewlett-Packard, Intuit (TurboTax) and Sybase.McGregor has also been an entrepreneur and executive for numerous valley start-ups. In 1992 he was selected as Entrepreneur of the Year by Unix World editor David Flack, who cited his invention of Prescient User Interfaces as an important future technology for ease of use and improved user experiences.McGregor has designed over twenty innovative software products and web services, and his products have regularly won awards based on their ease of use. Among these, the most widely known is his design ot the PlaceWare Web Conference Center, today known as Microsoft Live Meeting , a web conference that enables over a million people to meet over the web every day. The results achieved by the PlaceWare product are illustrative of the contributions that McGregor has made to several start-ups: In 1988 McGregor designed the "user experience" for the PlaceWare Web Conference Center and helped establish "Web Conferencing" as a new recognized and important market segment. With this product alone, PlaceWare grew from $500K to $10M in sales and filed for an IPO -- all in just 2 years. Later the company was acquired by Microsoft and today that product is known as Microsoft Live Meeting. Scott McGregor developed a repeatable methodology, called SWIFT, for developing market disruptiving Innovative New Products and Services capable of catapulting new entrants to market leadership. This method has been taught to many Silicon Valley companies through the auspices of the SWIFT Design Group that McGregor helped form. McGregor has been a co-founder of the Association for Software Development (ASD), and the World Wide Institute of Software Architects (WWISA) as is a past president of their Silicon Valley Chapters. McGregor has been an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for over 25 years. He has been a frequent speaker at BayCHI, PARC and other Silicon Valley professional and entrepreneurial organizations. McGregor holds a MS in Industrial Administration for Carnegie-Mellon University's Tepper School of Business and a BA in Analytic Philosophy (Logic and Language) from Haverford College. In addition to his skills as a software designer and executive, McGregor has also achieved success as a playwright, whose full length musical comedy, Kije! and one act plays Eggs and Subplots, have been performed in multiple locations.
