Scott Cohn Biography :

Part of CNBC's original on-air team, Senior Correspondent Scott Cohn also appears on "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today," MSNBC, and on NBC affiliates.

In 2005, Cohn covered Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath from New Orleans for CNBC and NBC News. He has made several trips back to the region to report on the recovery effort. Cohn also covered the 1993 Midwest floods, the 1994 Los Angeles earthquake and the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.

Leading CNBC's coverage of white-collar crime, Cohn provided groundbreaking coverage of the Enron scandal, from the company's collapse in 2001 through the landmark trial of its former top executives in 2006. He was first to report on New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s investigations of the mutual fund and insurance industries, and provided extensive coverage of the criminal trials of former WorldCom CEO Bernard Ebbers and investment banker Frank Quattrone.

In November 2006, Cohn received two nominations for the Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting in the category Outstanding Investigative Reporting of a Business Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast, for his reports "Lie Now, PayLater: Your Pension at Risk" and "A Penalty Sticks", which takes an in-depth look at the alleged environmental cover-up by DuPont and its Teflon product.

Cohn is the recipient of more than a dozen journalism awards, including a National Headliner Award. He has twice been a finalist for the prestigious Gerald R. Loeb award from UCLA, and is a two-time CableACE nominee.

After helping to launch CNBC in New York in 1989, Cohn returned to his hometown of Chicago in 1990 to open the CNBC bureau there. He was stationed in Chicago for nine years, returning to CNBC’s global headquarters in 1999.

Before joining CNBC, Cohn was an anchor and reporter for ABC affiliate WZZM in Grand Rapids, Mich. He has also worked as an anchor and reporter for NBC affiliate WEAU in Eau Claire, Wis., and as a reporter and program host for Wisconsin Public Radio.

Cohn holds a degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin, which honored him in 2005 with its annual award for Distinguished Service to Journalism.
