Scott Merrell became RTI's corporate legal officer in 2003 and is responsible for legal oversight of all RTI operations, including corporate governance, commercial transactions, intellectual property protection, tax, labor and ERISA compliance, the ethics program, and other corporate matters. He serves as a member of RTI's Executive Leadership Team, Strategic Investment Committee, and Enterprise Risk Management Committee, and as a senior lecturing fellow at the Duke University School of Law. Before his current position, Merrell served at RTI as vice president and counsel of Corporate Ventures, counsel to the president, and senior director and counsel for commercialization and intellectual property. Before RTI, he was engaged in the private practice of law with a large commercial law firm, specializing in corporate finance and taxation, commercial transactions, and related business litigation. Merrell is admitted to practice law before the Courts of the State of North Carolina, the U.S. District Court (E.D.N.C.), the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Tax Court. |
