Scott Scioli Biography :

Scott E. Scioli is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, where he specializes in patent prosecution and client counseling.

Prior to joining Drinker Biddle & Reath, Scott prosecuted both U.S. and foreign patent applications for over 4 years at Woodcock Washburn. Scott’s focus has been primarily fields of agricultural and pharmaceutical biotechnology, and nanotechnology. Prior to that, Scott was a patent agent with the IP group at Saul Ewing, where he also worked in patent prosecution.

He has also worked as a scientist and managed a small group in the microbiology and sterilization sciences at Ethicon, Inc. He also worked with the central research & development group at DuPont that ultimately became Qualicon. Scott also worked as a technical consultant at BioTrace, a start-up company specializing in rapid methods of detection of biological contaminants, where he later became the NorthEast Regional Sales Manager. Scott has solid experience in computers and Internet technology, having performed web programming, and domain management. He maintained and created content for websites for small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

In addition to his law degree, Scott holds dual bachelor's degrees in microbiology and public health, and in food science and human nutrition from Michigan State University. He earned a master's degree in food science and technology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also completed all requirements except the thesis for a Ph.D. in biochemistry & molecular biology at Rutgers University, where he obtained a Certificate in Biotechnology. Scott authored or co-authored several articles and abstracts, and gave presentations at scientific meetings in food science, dairy science, cell biology and plant physiology.

Scott is the co-author of, Written Description: A Looser Requirement? The National Law Journal (2003).

Scott is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; he is also a member of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association.
