Scott’s primary focus is business litigation, with particular emphasis on corporate and director compliance and investigations, securities litigation and resolving complex insurance coverage disputes on behalf of corporate policy holders. He also represents clients in general commercial litigation concerning breach of contract, tortious interference with business and other business tort claims. Scott’s significant contributions to the Securities Litigation group and to the White Collar Defense and Investigations practice include securities enforcement, internal investigations and class-action defense. Scott also has extensive experience defending national broker-dealer organizations, as well as their employees, in arbitrations before the NYSE and NASD brought by investors alleging unsuitable investments, churning, fraud, unauthorized trading, misappropriation of assets and related causes of action. Scott is also a key member of the team currently providing comprehensive insurance coverage counseling to an international manufacturer of industrial coatings and sealants. He holds primary responsibility for managing the insurance coverage matters of two of the company’s largest subsidiaries, and regularly represents the company in coverage disputes against its carriers to obtain coverage for large bodily injury and property damage claims. Scott has been responsible for recovering over $1 million on the subsidiaries’ behalf where coverage was originally disputed or denied by the company’s carriers. He has extensive experience in developing and implementing strategies to locate, identify and secure insurance coverage for clients, and saved one large privately-held client several hundred thousand dollars per year in legal fees and settlement costs after it was named a defendant in asbestos litigation nationwide. Scott is on the board of directors and the executive committee of the Cleveland chapter of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), and is a member of the board of trustees for both Congregation B’Nai Jeshurun and Gross Schechter Day School. He is also a past member of the board of Cleveland Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Division. In 2004, Scott was one of nine young leaders named a Shalom Comay Fellow nationwide by the AJC and participated in the organization’s diplomatic mission to Israel, Egypt and Morocco. He also has been honored by the AJC with the Max Freedman Young Leadership Award. Scott is a member of the New York, Maryland, New Jersey and Ohio Bar Associations. Scott was an associate with the New York law firms of Montfort, Healy, McGuire & Salley, and Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer between 1995 and 1999. He began his tenure with Calfee in 1999 and became a partner in 2006. |
