Dr. Santanu Das is a founder of TranSwitch Corporation, incorporated in 1988, and serves as president and chief executive officer. He has more than 30 years experience in the telecommunications industry and in computer development. As president of Micom Digital Corporation from December 1987 to the end of June 1988, Dr. Das was responsible for all operating activities in the marketing, sales, engineering and manufacturing of a networking T-1 multiplexer for private corporate telecommunications networks. Prior to Micom Digital, he was vice president of Operations and Engineering from October 1986 to December 1987 at Spectrum Digital, the predecessor to Micom Digital. Prior to Spectrum, he was an executive at ITT Corporation from 1973 to 1986, where he held several senior positions at the ITT Advanced Technology Center. There, he was responsible for the development of VLSI-based telephone switching systems (ITT's System 12 Switch, which is now being sold worldwide by Alcatel Corporation), advanced technology development and workstation-based CAD systems. Dr. Das holds a Doctor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Washington University, St. Louis, where he is currently a trustee. He received his BS and MS degrees in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India. He received the 'Alumni Achievementward' from Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science in April 2000, which recognizes his contributions to the advancement of the telecommunications and data communications industry and his entrepreneurial spirit. In June 2000, he was awarded the Ernst & Young 'Entrepreneur of the Year Award' for Southwest Connecticut/New York Hudson Valley area for the telecommunications industry.
