Sanne Knudsen concentrates her practice in environmental law and business litigation. She represents clients ranging from industrial and manufacturing companies to governmental entities and Alaska Native Village Corporations in matters involving regulatory compliance and litigation. She also has experience counseling clients regarding compliance with various environmental regulations at the international, national and state levels, including energy efficiency standards and European Union environmental directives. In her pro bono practice, Sanne represents national and regional nonprofit environmental organizations in matters involving wildlife protection and public lands preservation.
Sanne is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, where she teaches the environmental law moot court practice. She has also taught environmental law at Hamline University Law School.

Massachusetts v. EPA,127 S. Ct. 1438 (2007) – submitted amicus curiae brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of several states, including Minnesota, in this leading global climate change case.
M/V Selendang Ayu Oil Spill – represented Native Alaskan Village Corporations in recovering damages to native lands as a result of oil spilled off the coast of the Aleutian Islands.
Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Litigation – assisted in coordinating the submission of 16 amicus curiae briefs in support of respondent commercial fishermen to the U.S. Supreme Court in Exxon Shipping Co. v. Baker, No. 07-219.
Mayo Foundation v. STB, 472 F.3d 545 (8th Cir. 2006) – briefed and argued case to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in a NEPA challenge against the federal agency's approval of railroad project.
The Humane Society of the United States v. Kempthorne, 481 F. Supp. 2d 53 (D.D.C. 2006) – represented environmental coalition in Endangered Species Act challenge against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's issuance of permits allowing the killing of gray wolves; subsequently briefed and argued procedural issues to U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Sierra Club v. Kimbell, No. 06-3334 (D. Minn.) – representing environmental coalition in action against the U.S. Forest Service regarding the Superior National Forest Plan that was revised in 2004. |
