Sandra A. Allen was appointed as a WSSC Commissioner from Montgomery County in January 2005. She currently manages StrongSuit Consulting, a business consulting and executive coaching firm located in Silver Spring, MD. In 1981, Ms. Allen co-founded The KEVRIC Company, Inc, a company also based in Silver Spring, which provides technical and scientific support services to private and public sector clients. Ms. Allen served as the company’s Chief Executive Officer for 22 successful years. Through her strategic leadership and vision the company experienced consistent growth and won many performance and innovation awards. Ms. Allen and her co-founder sold the company in 2003.
Ms. Allen’s entrepreneurial spirit and excellent communication skills have allowed her to succeed throughout her professional career. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, she served in such professional roles as Commercial Real Property Analyst and Appraiser with Reynolds and Reynolds of Washington D.C., Assistant Director of Personnel and Director of Education and Training for Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; and Personnel Recruiter for Allstate Insurance Company in Hudson, Ohio.
The long-time Silver Spring resident serves as a member of the National Contract Management Association, TechCouncil of Maryland, Society for Human Resource Management, International Coach Federation and is a retired member of the American Society of Appraisers. Ms. Allen is a past member of the Montgomery County Executive’s Economic Advisory Council.
Ms. Allen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Education, both from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has also completed the Leadership Coaching Program at Georgetown University and the Minority Director Development Program of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Outside of her professional affiliations, Ms. Allen has volunteered her time, talent and energy in the communities in which she has lived, accepting responsibilities such as: Junior Achievement corporate volunteer; Girl Scout leader; Cub Scout den mother; Meals on Wheels volunteer; and PTA board member. Ms. Allen resides in Silver Spring with her husband David. She has three adult children and is an active member of the People’s Community Baptist Church.
Her term with the Commission expires May 2007.
