Saddie L. Smith has held the position of Secretary and Associate General Counsel for Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. since 2002. In her assignment, Ms. Smith is responsible for corporate compliance and oversight on fiscal and business matters, board and shareholder relationships, documentation and reporting, and development of the company's corporate structure.
Prior to being elected to the position of Secretary, Ms. Smith was Vice President of Con Edison's Staten Island operations from 1998 through 2002. She was responsible for all company operations in that borough, which included customer service activities and the electric distribution system.
Ms. Smith served as director of facilities management and office services, a position to which she was appointed in July 1997. From 1995 to 1997, she held the position of director of EEO affairs, where she guided the development of the company's corporate policies and procedures on Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action. Prior to that she was a senior attorney in Con Edison's Law department.
A graduate of Columbia University School of Law and Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Ms. Smith joined Con Edison in 1982 in the General Litigation section of the Law Department. In 1987, she moved into the Labor and Environmental section and was responsible for employment discrimination litigation and labor disputes. Before joining Con Edison, Ms. Smith was with the law firms of Mudge, Rose, Guthrie & Alexander in New York, and Jenner & Block in Chicago.
In 1996, Smith was inducted into the YWCA's Academy of Women Achievers. She is also a recipient of the YMCA's "Black Achievers in Industry" award. She has received Con Edison's distinguished "Living Our Values" award, given annually to Con Edison men and women who exemplify the company's values and demonstrate concern for the quality of life in the community.
Ms. Smith is a member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries and serves on the Bowdoin College Comprehensive Strategic Planning Committee and on the board of the Dominican Academy in Manhattan. She is also a member of the Corporate Educational Advisory Board at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. |
