Russell K. L. Leu is a key member of the China Practice Group of Taft Stettinius & Hollister, LLP. His current practice focuses on representing and advising US clients with their business and investment activities in China. A key characteristic of his practice involves combining traditional legal counseling with business consulting, and advising clients on issues unique on doing business in P.R. China. In advising and counseling U.S. clients relative to their P.R. China related transactions, the range of areas and issues handled have included: business planning, conducting due diligence, handling business negotiations, handling manufacturing and sourcing matters, conducting initial product market entry, dispute resolution, develop plan and application for representative office, foreign direct investment, intellectual property audit and planning, setting up of business organizations in PR China, contracting, contractual disputes, and international tax planning. Industries representative of clients are diverse and include biotechnology, health care, manufacturing, research and development, chemical and scientific data collection and database compilation, and professional music organizations. He is active with the China Law Committee of the International Group of the American Bar Association and is a Co-Editor of the ABA China News Reporter, and also had worked on American Bar Association legal projects in China, including educational exchange programs between Chinese and American lawyers. He has also worked on various economic trade missions to P.R. China and has served as a director on numerous boards of community and professional organizations, including the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and U.S.-China People’s Friendship Association (Honolulu). He has guest lectured on doing business in China at the Kentucky International Trade Conference and has appeared frequently on radio shows. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law (1984) and his Bachelor of Business from the University of Hawaii Shidler School of Business (1980). His education has also included attending schools in China including the Beijing International Studies University (Er Wai) and Taipei Language Institute. He is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual attorney (native English and fluent Mandarin speaker).
