Russell J. Ober, Jr. is a partner of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP. He is head of the firm’s Tort Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Business Litigation Group. Since entering private practice in 1975, he has concentrated on the litigation of business and commercial disputes and the defense of product liability, errors and omissions and other property and casualty claims. From 1973 to 1975, he was an Assistant District Attorney in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for the prosecution of hundreds of criminal cases. Mr. Ober has litigated matters in federal courts in more than a dozen different districts, and has appeared before the United States Courts of Appeal for the Second, Third, Fourth and Seventh Circuits. He was also lead counsel for the appellants in a securities law case before the United States Supreme Court in which certiorari was granted and the prior judgment of the Court of Appeals was vacated. Mr. Ober received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He also completed the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Advanced Advocacy Course at the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley. Mr. Ober is a Fellow of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and has served on its Board of Governors. He is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Ober is active in leadership positions of various bar organizations, including service as Chairman of the Young Lawyers Section, a member of the Board of Governors and a member of the Council of the Civil Litigation Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association, a member of the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and a member of the House of Delegates of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association. Mr. Ober has been named one of the best lawyers in the country in the field of commercial litigation in Woodward/White’s 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America and as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by the publishers of Law & Politics Magazine and .Mr. Ober has presided over civil jury trials as a special master appointed by the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and over civil arbitrations as chairman of arbitration panels appointed by the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He has also been appointed by the United States District Court to serve as an adjunct settlement judge. In addition, Mr. Ober has lectured on litigation related topics to various professional groups, including the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and the Civil Litigation Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
