Rupert Bondy was appointed Senior Vice President and General Counsel for GlaxoSmithKline in June 2001. He is a member of the Corporate Executive Team. Previously, he had served as head of Legal operations, Global Manufacturing and Supply/Corporate for GSK since January 2001.
Rupert joined SmithKline Beecham as Senior Counsel for Corporate in 1995 and subsequently assumed additional responsibility for the Corporate Secretarial group and for legal support to Worldwide supply operations. In 1998, he was appointed as the Head of the Corporate Legal and Secretarial group.
Before joining the company, Rupert worked as a lawyer in private practice, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. In 1989 he joined US law firm Morrison and Foerster, working in San Francisco, London and New York, and from 1994 he worked for UK law firm Lovells in London.
Rupert graduated from Cambridge University in 1983. He then spent a year as a Harkness Fellow in jurisprudence at Harvard University. After qualifying at the English Bar, he spent a further year as a teaching fellow at Stanford Law School, where he also earned a Master's law degree. He is a member of the English Bar and the California Bar.
