Ross A. Lewin is a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Environmental Practice Groups.
Commercial Litigation. Ross handles a wide variety of complex civil lawsuits, representing clients in such diverse matters as post-closing business disputes, land development projects, employment discrimination and restrictive covenant claims, alcoholic beverage regulation, and health and hospital law. For example, Ross’s current cases include a dispute arising from mold contamination discovered after the sale of a surgery center; a challenge to the constitutionality of New Jersey’s law prohibiting out-of-state wineries from shipping to New Jersey residents; and an appeal from the largest medical malpractice award in New Jersey history. His clients include Allied Waste Industries, Absolut Spirits Co., Jim Beam Brands Co., the New Jersey Hospital Association and HealthSouth Corp.
Environmental. Ross has particular experience in environmental litigation, including cost recovery actions and toxic exposure claims, and regularly represents clients on environmental issues arising out of business transactions. He also specializes in solid waste issues and has helped several industry leaders navigate the complex maze of regulations governing solid waste businesses.
Prior Experience. Before joining Drinker Biddle’s Princeton office, Ross had served as deputy chief counsel to both Gov. Thomas Kean and Gov. Jim Florio. Ross was also a deputy attorney general and an assistant section chief in the environmental protection section of the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, where he was in charge of hazardous and solid waste matters. In that capacity, he defended the constitutionality of key provisions of the Spill Compensation and Control Act in appeals before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He was also responsible for numerous litigations and proceedings where private parties sought to challenge governmental cleanup actions at toxic waste sites. Most recently, Ross was a partner at Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf LLP.
In General. Ross graduated from Yale Law School in 1982 and clerked for New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Alan B. Handler from 1982-83. He received his bachelor's degree in 1977 with honors from Trinity College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and named a President's Fellow in American studies. He is a past president of the Yale Law School Association of New Jersey and presently serves on the board of directors of Legal Services of New Jersey. |
