Ronald L. Hicks, Jr., grew up in a suburb outside of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, with a passion to practice law as a trial attorney. In pursuit of this passion, he became the first in his family to attend college and then three years later graduated from law school. Upon graduation, Ron came to Pittsburgh to begin his legal career as a trial attorney.Since his start with the firm in 1987, Ron has acquired a broad range of civil litigation experience and has provided counsel and representation in several different practice areas. He actively appears in state and federal courts throughout the Atlantic coast and the Midwest, and he has argued frequently before various state and federal appellate courts. He has pursued and defended claims brought before the American Arbitration Association in locales both in and outside of Pittsburgh.Ron represents municipal, corporate and individual clients in the prosecution and defense of matters involving business and commercial disputes, computer and internet law, telemarketing and telecommunications, insurance coverage, banking and real estate, construction contracts and bonds, estate and fiduciary liability, and trade secret and business protection. He also counsels clients to adopt practices and engage in conduct that minimizes their exposure to litigation.Ron is a frequent speaker and author on issues involving business litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. Most recently, he served as a co-presenter for the National Business Institute seminar on e-discovery entitled E-Discovery: Applying the New FRCP Changes. Previously, he has spoken as a co-presenter for the NBI on Challenges in Pennsylvania Insurance Coverage Litigation,Succeeding in Federal Court: What You Need To Know About Rules and Procedures and You’ve Been Subpoenaed, Now What? Also, he has presented to clients a seminar on e-mail and Internet liability titled You've Got Mail? You've Got Liability! Workplace Privacy & Surveillance in the Era of E-mail and the Internet.Ron has actively represented local and statewide Republican candidates on various election law issues, including election contests, ballot recounts, submission of nomination petitions and challenges to absentee ballot procedures. Ron is a sustaining member of the Republican National Lawyers Association and a founding board member and current Chair of the RNLA’s Pittsburgh Chapter. He has been elected Pittsburgh Ward 17 Republican Committee-person (2004-2008) for the Republican Committee of Allegheny County, and from mid-2003 through the beginning of 2008, he served as the County Comittee’s solicitor.Ron is now the Partner in charge of Paralegals, the Partner in charge of Associate Training and Development, and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. He serves as chair of the firm’s Technology Committee. In addition, he is also co-chair of the Litigation Section of Meritas, an association of select independent law firms in principal cities worldwide.He is President of the South Shore Place Homeowners Association, a new townhome community in the South Side of Pittsburgh where he resides. In 2006, he was elected to the Business Development Committee of the South Side Local Development Company, a local non-profit community development organization committed to the historic preservation and economic development of Pittsburgh’s South Side. He also serves on the Board of Directors as President of the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble.In 1984, Ron graduated with distinction from Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-law. In 1987, he graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law, where participated with honors in several Moot Court competitions and was elected to the Order of Barristers.Ron is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations and The W. Edward Sell American Inn of Court. He is also a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in business litigation for 2006 and 2007 |
