Ronald L. Grudziecki is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, and was most recently a partner of Burns Doane Swecker & Mathis, where he served as managing partner for much of the 1980’s and 1990’s. He has more than 30 years' experience in patent prosecution, litigation, licensing and other aspects of intellectual property, including trade secrets, trademarks and copyrights. Ron has extensive patent and trademark litigation experience before the Federal District Court, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the International Trade Commission. He was lead counsel for MOVA Pharmaceuticals in Upjohn v. MOVA Pharmaceuticals Corp., and MOVA Pharmaceuticals v. Shalala et al.; and for Eli Lilly in Eli Lilly and Co. v. Zenith Goldline Pharmaceuticals, Inc. His practice includes counseling clients domestically and internationally toward successful intellectual capital management and intellectual property strategies including licensing agreements and litigation.
Ron was an active adjunct faculty member at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he taught the Advanced Patent Law Seminar for over 20 years. He has also taught under the auspices of the Patent Resources Group, and is actively involved in continuing legal education. He has lectured before many groups in the U.S.A., Europe and Asia on a variety of subjects. He has co-authored several texts on intellectual property, including Trademark Selection, Management and Litigation (1979); Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law, in, Legal Environment for Direct Foreign Investment in the United States (1983, 1996); and Licensing and Litigation, The LESI Guide to Licensing Best Practices, John Wiley and Sons (2002). He is listed in the Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers, the Who’s Who of International Business Lawyers, USA, Patent Lawyers, and is a former patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He was president of the Licensing Executives Society (USA and Canada) in 2000 and president of its parent organization, the Licensing Executives Society International in 2006 and 2007.
In General. Ron received his bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Maryland in 1962 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1968. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia, and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Ron is a member of the American Bar Association; the American Intellectual Property Law Association; the American Society of Metals; the District of Columbia Bar Association - secretary/treasurer, Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section, 1978-1980; the Licensing Executives Society, USA & Canada, trustee, treasurer, vice president, president, 1999-2000; the Licensing Executives Society International, delegate, chairman of LES International Affairs Committee, 2000-2002, vice president designate, 2002-present and nominated as president-elect; and, The Patent Journal, member of the advisory board. |
