Roger A. Krone is president of Network and Space Systems, a business of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. Network and Space Systems is the company's center for network integration, intelligence and surveillance systems, communications architectures, and space exploration. The business comprises five divisions: Command, Control and Communications (C3) Networks; Combat Systems; Missile Defense Systems; Space Exploration, and Space and Intelligence Systems. Krone's organization employs 27,000 employees in 40 states and nine countries who are dedicated to providing their customers -- government and commercial -- with an integrated set of capabilities and the most advanced technological systems in the world.
Krone's principal location is in Northern Virginia.
Prior to this assignment, Krone was vice president and general manager of Army Systems for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. Krone led a growing $3.5 billion business that included major transformational Army programs Boeing won in 2002 -- Future Combat System and Joint Tactical Radio Systems. In addition to systems integration work for the Army, this business unit also delivered many Army platforms, including the AH-64D Apache Longbow and the CH-47 Chinook tandem rotor helicopter.
Until September 2002, Krone was vice president of strategic programs at Boeing's corporate headquarters in Chicago. He was previously vice president and general manager for U.S. Army Programs and Military Rotorcraft for The Boeing Company, where he had overall responsibility for all U.S. Army programs and supporting functional activities in Philadelphia and Mesa, Ariz.
Programs at these facilities include the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, the CH-47 Chinook and CH-46 tandem rotor helicopters, the AH 64D Apache Attack helicopter and the Boeing Strategic Manufacturing Center (SMC) for wiring.
Prior to this assignment, he was the vice president and general manager of Business Management and chief financial officer for Boeing Military Aircraft and Missile Systems. He was responsible for all financial activities of the unit and led the team that manages business resources.
Krone also served as vice president and treasurer of McDonnell Douglas, where he was responsible for financial planning, treasury operations, investor relations, insurance and risk management and pension fund management.
He joined McDonnell Douglas in 1992 as director of Financial Planning and later became division director of Information Systems at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace. He was with General Dynamics from 1977 through 1991, where he held positions in program management, engineering and finance.
Krone is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. He received a master's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master's degree in business administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. Krone also is a certified public accountant.
He is a member of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA). Krone is on the board of directors and executive council for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the board of directors of The Franklin Institute Science Center, the Electronic Industries Alliance Board of Governors, the Urban League of Philadelphia, Outsourcing Solutions, Inc., and past Chairman of the American Helicopter Society (AHS). He holds Boeing's Six Sigma Green Belt certification and also is a commercial pilot.
