Roderick Hood Biography :

Entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent signing by the Eagles in 2003, he went on to play four seasons in Philly’s secondary and on special teams.

Appeared in 56 regular season games (12 starts) for the Eagles between 2003-06; also played in seven postseason games for Philadelphia, including three starts.

Selected in 2005 to USA Today’s All-Joe team, which recognizes players around the league whose contributions are valuable but seldom heralded.

After suffering injuries his junior and senior years in high school, walked on at Auburn and eventually earned a scholarship after converting from wide receiver to cornerback.

Pro Career:

Originally signed with Philadelphia as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2003; appeared in 56 career regular season games with the Eagles, registering 12 starts while also appearing in seven playoffs contests, earning three postseason starts. Signed a five-year contract with the Cardinals on 3/10/07 as an unrestricted free agent.

2006: Was a key asset as the team’s nickel CB and also served valuable time on special teams units in 2006 ... filled in at cornerback after starter Lito Sheppard suffered a sprained ankle in the first quarter of the season opener @ Hou (9/10) received the start at cornerback vs. NYG (9/17) but did not record any statistics in the start @ SF (9/24) collected three tackles despite suffering from a heel sprain suffered in the previous week against the Giants inactive (heel) for the next four contests recorded his first career sack when he took down Cowboys QB Tony Romo @ Dal (12/25), while also recovering a fumble in that contest started both postseason games for the Eagles, a win over Dal (1/7) and a loss @ NO (1/13), a game in which he posted six tackles and returned two kickoffs for 48 yards.

2005: Named to USA Today's 2005 All-Joe team, a tribute to the guys who are relied on day in and day out to do the unheralded work for their teams intercepted a pass from 49ers QB Tim Rattay in the second quarter, returning it 17 yards vs. SF (9/18) set career highs in kick returns (six) and yards (149) @ Den (10/30) played the majority of the second half at cornerback after an ankle injury sidelined Sheppard @ NYG (11/20) started the final six games of the season for an injured Sheppard (ankle) in first start of the season picked off QB Brett Favre with 0:38 remaining in the game, securing a victory vs. GB (11/27) set a career high with eight tackles and had a career-long kickoff return of 53 yards @ StL (12/18) pulled down an interception off of Redskins QB Mark Brunell vs. Was (1/1).

2004: Finished 2004 with 32 tackles and a team-high three fumble recoveries on defense recovered a Joey Harrington fumble @ Det (9/26), leading to a touchdown on the next play forced Bears CB Nathan Vasher into punt returner R.W. McQuarters who lost the ball @ Chi (10/3); Dhani Jones then recovered the ball leading to an Eagles touchdown intercepted Jake Delhomme vs. Car (10/17) returned the first two kickoffs of his career which went for a combined 74 yards, including a 45-yard @ Pit (11/7) recovered a muffed punt by Cowboys CB Lance Frazier @ Dal (11/15) which led to an Eagles touchdown downed two punts inside the Cowboys' 10-yard line vs. Dal (12/19).

2003: Tied for fifth on the Eagles in special teams tackles (21) subbing as the nickel cornerback, recorded four tackles and returned a fumble (forced by Michael Lewis) 27 yards @ Buf (9/28) recorded his first career interception vs. Was (10/6) off QB Patrick Ramsey, which led to an Eagles touchdown.

College:

A former walk-on at Auburn, moved to cornerback from wide receiver, the position which he tried out for with the Tigers played in 47 games (18 starts) recording 106 tackles and five interceptions playing left and right cornerback as well as free safety also registered an 11.2-yard avg. on 51 punt returns and 19.9 yard average on 44 kickoff returns earned a scholarship his sophomore season but was then converted to a safety after a coaching change saw playing time on defense and on special teams as a true freshman.

Personal:

Attended Carver (Columbus, GA) High School a quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback, Hood's high school football career was marred by injuries his junior and senior season lettered in basketball and in track, making it to the state finals in the 4x100 public administration major at Auburn.
