Dr. Carleton Hsia, Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Hsia, a former professor of pharmacology and biochemistry at the University of Toronto, is a pioneer in the blood substitute field. He co-founded and until 1992 served as Vice President of Research and Development for Hemosol, a public Canadian biotechnology company, that develops blood substitutes based on Dr. Hsia's inventions. Dr. Hsia, whose inventions are patented worldwide, founded SynZyme Technologies in 1992, and has served as the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since then. He is the recipient of numerous peer-reviewed NIH SBIR grants and DOD contracts totaling over $11 million. He has also raised over $5 million in private funding for SynZyme in the past. Dr. Hsia earned his Ph.D. at the University of Hawaii in 1968, with a dissertation on the use of nitroxide spin labels in the study of the ligand-binding behavior of immunoglobulin and its relationship to the immune response. He has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and ?? issued patents. |
