Bob Krysiak was born in Bristol, UK, in 1954. He graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Electronics and he also holds an MBA from the University of Bath.
In 1983, Krysiak joined INMOS, a company acquired several years later by SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics (now STMicroelectronics), as a VLSI Design Engineer. In the late 1980s, he became Design Manager for advanced single-chip microcomputers and high-speed serial communications products.
In 1992, Krysiak formed a group dedicated to the development of CPU products based on the Reusable-Micro-Core architecture. Under his leadership, the team produced a number of market-leading devices, using the popular ST20 32-bit RISC CPU core for applications in set-top boxes, mobile phones, GPS/navigation systems, and many others.
Krysiak was appointed Group Vice President and General Manager of ST’s 16/32/64 and DSP division in 1997 to oversee embedded microprocessor developments for standard and application-specific products. He has also been instrumental in forming a number of important microprocessor-related research and development partnerships for ST. These include the partnerships with Hitachi for the ST40 range of 32-bit CPU cores and with HP for the advanced VLIW cores that have been realized in the ST2xx family.
In 1999, Krysiak became Group Vice President of the Micro Cores Development Division covering all microcontroller, microprocessor, and VLIW cores, including advanced System-on-Chip products for the digital consumer market. In 2001, he took charge of ST’s DVD division, with significant operations in many countries including the UK, France, Germany, China, India, and the US.
In September 2004, Krysiak was appointed Marketing Director for the newly formed Home, Personal, and Communications (HPC) sector, which is ST’s largest product organisation, accounting for over one third of the Company’s annualized sales.
In October 2005, Bob Krysiak was appointed Corporate Vice President and General Manager to head the newly created STMicroelectronics’ Greater China region.
