ROBERT GREENBLATT, an award-wining producer, is President of Entertainment for Showtime Networks, Inc. where he is responsible for programming development, scheduling, and acquisitions across all Showtime channels.
In 2004 his first year at the network two signature hit dramas premiered that began to establish Showtime as a true premium network: THE L WORD,which instantly became part of the pop culture, and the critically-acclaimed HUFF, which garnered seven Emmy nominations in its first season including nods for Hank Azaria, Oliver Platt, Swoosie Kurtz, and winner Blythe Danner. HUFF returns to the schedule in 2006 with two award-winning actresses guest-starring in multiple episodes: Sharon Stone and Anjelica Huston.
2005 brought further growth with the launch of WEEDS, a film comedystarring Mary Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, and Kevin Nealon which has been nominated for numerous awards including the Golden Globe as Best Comedy Series. A comedy adaptation of the movie franchise BARBERSHOP also quickly became another critically-acclaimed Showtime original series. Kirstie Alley’s limited unscripted comedy series FAT ACTRESS debuted to great reviews and tons of publicity, and the suspense anthology series MASTERS OF HORROR, which featured episodes directed by legendary horror film directors, also enlivened the schedule.
A chilling mini-series called SLEEPER CELL, about an undercover FBI agent who infiltrates an Islamic terrorist cell, ran in December 2005 and was nominated for a Best Television Movie or Mini-Series Golden Globe and cited by the American Film Institute as one of the 10 Best TV Programs of the Year. Highlights to come in 2006 include the launch of BROTHERHOOD, a sophisticated drama series about two brothers in an Irish Catholic family who find themselves on opposite sides of the law; Damon Wayans’ return to outrageous sketch comedy in DAMON WAYANS PRESENTS THE UNDERGROUND; and a television adaptation by Ira Glass of his iconic NPR documentary series THIS AMERICAN LIFE.
One of the most anticipated events of 2006 is the debut of the fully restored LIZA WITH A Z, the classic one-woman concert for television that was conceived, choreographed and directed by Bob Fosse. In association with Liza Minnelli and producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, Showtime has undertaken an extensive restoration of the film which will be heard for the first time in full Dolby 5.1 stereo, and seen in a pristine condition that is better than originally broadcast 33 years ago.
Prior to joining Showtime in July 2003, Robert Greenblatt had a distinguished career both as a television network executive and award-winning producer, and he has been nominated six times for the prestigious Emmy Award. With fellow Executive Producer David Janollari, he formed The Greenblatt Janollari Studioin 1997 and in seven years they launched 11 series on a variety of networks. These shows ranged from HBO's SIX FEET UNDER,one of the most acclaimed dramas of the last decade, to THE HUGHLEYS,a situation comedy that is currently in syndication.
Greenblatt was awarded the 2001 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama Series for SIX FEET UNDER, and he has been nominated for the Best Drama Series Emmy for the past three years. The fifth and final season ran in the summer of 2005. In addition to its multiple Golden Globes and Emmy awards, SIX FEET UNDER has also won Greenblatt the 2003Producers Guild Award,the2002, 2003, and 2004GLAAD Media Awards, the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, and the Monte Carlo Television Festival’s highest honor.
Greenblatt Janollari also executive produced for CBS a four-hour mini-series on the life of Elvis Presley in 2005 which earned 5 Emmy nominations including one for Best Mini-Series and 3 Golden Globe Award nominations. It was produced with the full cooperation of Elvis Presley Enterprises and starred Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Elvis, Camryn Manheim as Gladys Presley, and Randy Quaid as Colonel Tom Parker.
Greenblatt is very proud to have been nominated for the 2004 Best Mini-Series Emmy and the 2005 Best Television Movie or Mini-Series Golden Globe for executive producing Gregory Nava's acclaimed AMERICAN FAMILY. This Latino drama series, which premiered on PBS in January 2002 to unanimous critical acclaim, stars Edward James Olmos, Sonia Braga, Esai Morales, Raquel Welch and Rita Moreno.
Greenblatt Janollari’s EVE is a multi-ethnic situation comedy starring hip-hop artist and actress Eve. It is now in its third season and is one of the cornerstones of UPN's line-up. Greenblatt Janollari’s already-established UPN hit ONE ON ONE is in its fifth season, and it has just spawned a successful spin-off called CUTS.
Prior to the formation of The Greenblatt Janollari Studio, Robert Greenblatt was Executive Vice President of Prime Time Programming for the Fox Broadcasting Company, where he worked for over eight years. Having been with the network almost from its inception, he supervised the development and production of such hit shows as THE X-FILES, ALLY McBEAL, PARTY OF FIVE, KING OF THE HILL, BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 and MELROSE PLACE. He also developed the pilots for several series that became signature shows on other networks, including THE SOPRANOS (HBO), DAWSON’S CREEK (WB), and FARSCAPE (Sci Fi).
