Bobby Keene has a diverse practice that includes the representation of musicians, artists, record companies, commercial property owners, financial institutions and individuals involved in estate/probate litigation. He has served as lead counsel in numerous jury and bench trials and has successfully tried many restrictive employment agreement cases. Mr. Keene has been a member of the adjunct faculty at the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America, since 1991, where he has taught Entertainment Law. His litigation experience includes major real estate, banking, trademark infringement, commercial contract, commercial landlord/tenant, insurance coverage, construction, will caveat/estate, securities arbitration, accounting malpractice, tort, injunctive and stockholder cases. Notable verdicts include: BMPC v. CALP (case settled on appeal for $16.7 million after favorable jury verdict) and Anchor Inn, et al. v. Montgomery County, MD, (invalidation of County Smoking Ban Regulation). Reported decisions include WHM-Darnestown Valley L.P. v. McDonald’s, 102 Md. App. 577 (1994); Ward v. Ingrao, et al., 63 Md. App. 645 (1985). Appellate reversals include: WHM-Darnestown L.P. v. McDonalds, i.d., Steuart v. Carpenter, and Property Development Associates v. Luskins, Inc. Mr. Keene maintains an active commercial leasing practice in which he has leased over 1,000,000 square feet of commercial space over the years. In his entertainment practice, Mr. Keene has negotiated and litigated talent/personal service agreements for personal management, recording, music and literary publishing, agency, sponsorships, endorsements, merchandising, television, modeling, motion pictures and business management. He has also negotiated and drafted licensing agreements for recording, animation, software and soundtracks and artist/producer agreements on behalf of both artist and record production companies, and counseled clients and litigated copyright and trademark infringement actions. Mr. Keene has negotiated acquisition/option/talent agreements with Walt Disney, Fox Television and motion picture production companies for the development and production of children’s animated television series and documentary and dramatic motion pictures. He has provided management and publishing administration of a national recording artist through album releases, national tours, videos, television and motion picture appearances, and provided business affairs and corporate counsel to record/production companies and recording studios. Prior to joining Miles & Stockbridge P.C. in 1992, Mr. Keene was a partner at Frank, Bernstein, Conaway & Goldman (successors to Beckett, Cromwell & Myers) in Bethesda, Maryland. Prior to private practice, Mr. Keene was a law clerk to Judge Richard B. Latham and Judge James F. McAuliffe of the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, Maryland.
