Robert Griffith Biography :

Enters the 13th year of a pro career that began in the Canadian Football League after he went undrafted but which has since taken him to the Pro Bowl and two NFC championship games.

Recorded 75 stops in 2005, his first season with the Cardinals. Has topped 100 tackles in eight of the last 10 years; only seasons he didn’t was 2001 when he missed six games with a broken leg and 2005.

Played for the Vikings from 1994-2001 before going to Cleveland for the 2002-04 seasons; set a career-high in 2004 with 157 tackles for the Browns.

Interests include modeling and acting and his work has appeared in national publications like Details, Vibe and Rolling Stone. He has also appeared on the soap opera Young & The Restless.

Began the Robert Griffith Foundation in 1998, which provides college scholarships for at risk and disadvantaged youth.

Pro Career:

Signed a two-year contract with the Cardinals on 3/8/05, reuniting with head coach Dennis Green and defensive backs coach Richard Solomon with whom he spent the first eight years of his career with in Minnesota. Started his pro career in 1993 with Sacramento and Saskatchewan of the CFL before signing as a free agent with Minnesoata in ’94. Signed with the Cleveland Browns on 3/6/02 following his time with the Vikings.

2005: Started all 16 games for the Cardinals at free safety made his first start as a Cardinal in the 2005 season opener @ NYG (9/11) and recorded two solo tackles to finish the day with five total tackles recorded a team-high seven stops vs. StL (9/18) recorded eight solo tackles and one pass defensed @ Sea (9/25) entered the game waving the Mexican flag in front of a record-setting crowd of 103,467 at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca vs. SF (10/2) and proceeded to record six tackles recorded seven tackles and forced a fumble that was recovered by Quentin Harris set up Neil Rackers 33-yard field goal vs. Ten (10/23) recorded a team-high nine tackles vs. Sea (11/6) recorded seven tackles and one pass defensed vs. Jax (11/27) recorded his first interception as a Cardinal off of Alex Smith @ SF (12/4) recorded three solo tackles and a special teams stop when he made a tackle on a fake field goal attempt vs. Phi (12/24) recorded two tackles in the season finale @ Ind (1/1).

2004: Recorded 157 tackles while starting at strong safety in all 16 games for the Browns named Cleveland Browns 2004 Player-of-the-Year by the local chapter of the PFWA established a career-high 157 tackles and started all 16 games at SS led or tied for team lead in tackles in 10 of 16 contests had 10 or more tackles in eight games ... led the club with 13 tackles, including nine solo, and three passes defensed vs. Bal (9/12) led the club with 9 tackles, 6 solo, and 1 interception for 18 yards recorded an interception in the 4th quarter on a pass from Vinny Testaverde at the Cleveland 9-yard line to thwart a drive @ Dal (9/19) led the club again with 13 tackles, including nine solo @ NYG (9/26) ranked second on the club with 11 tackles, including five solo @ Bal (11/7) tied for the team lead with 11 tackles vs. Pit (11/14) tied for the team lead with 11 tackles and added one pass defensed as part of a defensive effort that limited the Jets to only 78 net yards passing, and recorded a season-high 6.0 sacks for vs. NYJ (11/21) topped the 100-tackle mark for the third consecutive season, and eighth time in his career and tied for second on the club with nine tackles @ Cin (11/28) led the club with 11 tackles, including 8 solo vs. NE (12/5) led the club with 11 tackles, including 7 solo, and 1 PBU @ Buf (12/12) led the team with 9 tackles @ Mia (12/26) and recorded his first sack of the year with a 1-yard sack of QB A.J. Feeley in the 2nd quarter led the club with 13 tackles @ Hou (1/2).

2003: In his second season with the Browns, started all 16 regular season games at strong safety and ranked second on the team with 142 tackles recorded 10 or more tackles on eight occasions opened the season with 10 or more tackles in the first four consecutive games had a season-high 14 tackles @ Sea (11/30) recorded 12 tackles @ Bal (9/14) ranked second on the club with 10 tackles @ SF (9/21) led the club with 10 tackles vs. Cin (9/28) led the club with 11 tackles vs. SD (10/19) ranked second on the club with 10 tackles, including 8 solo, and 1 QB pressure @ KC (11/9) notched a season-high 14 tackles, including @ Sea (11/30) recorded 11 tackles vs. StL (12/8) recorded seven tackles and an interception @ Den (12/14); his first interception of the year came in the 3rd quarter on a pass from Jake Plummer intended for TE Shannon Sharpe in the end zone to thwart a potential scoring drive recorded 8 tackles and an interception @ Cin (12/28); his second interception of the season came on a pass from Jon Kitna intended for TE Matt Schobel at the end of the 4th quarter to secure the 22-14 win over Cincinnati.

2002: In his first season with the Browns, started 12 games at strong safety and ranked 2nd on the club with 109 tackles led or was tied for the team lead in tackles on five occasions recorded 10 or more tackles in six games missed four games with a shoulder injury made his Browns debut starting as strong safety vs. KC (9/8), with nine tackles led the team with a season-high 13 tackles and one interception vs. Cin (9/15) ranked second on the team with eight tackles and forced a fumble @ Ten (9/22) second on the club with 10 tackles and added another interception @ Pit (9/29) left the game in the 2nd quarter with a shoulder injury vs. Bal (10/6) and did not return inactive the next four games due to the injury returned to the starting lineup @ Cin (11/17) tied for the team lead with nine tackles @ NO (11/24) led the club with nine tackles vs. Car (12/1) was second on the team with 12 tackles at Jax (12/8) second on the team with 10 tackles vs. Ind (12/15) led the team with 12 tackles @ Bal (12/22) in the regular season finale vs. Atl (12/29), was second on the club with 12 tackles and added one interception started in the AFC Wild Card Playoff Game @ Pit on (1/5) and had 10 tackles.

2001: Missed six contests with the Vikings due to a fractured fibula he suffered during the opening kickoff @ Chi (9/23) started nine games at SS and recorded 68 tackles and two interceptions in the season opener vs. Car (9/9), recorded a team-high 11 tackles returned to action following the fractured fibula vs. NYG (11/19) had eight tackles and one pass defensed vs. Chi (11/25) had a season-high 13 tackles and an interception @ Pit (12/2) moved into third place in Vikings history among defensive backs with his five tackles vs. Ten (12/9) tied season-high with eight solo tackles @ Bal (1/7/02).

2000: Earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl following the 2000 season first Minnesota safety to be named to the Pro Bowl since Todd Scott in 1992 ranked third on the team with 122 tackles and second on the team with 8 PBU led or tied for team lead in tackles five times on the season led the team with 13 tackles vs. Det (10/1) posted a season-high 14 tackles vs. Buf (10/22) had 12 tackles, one pass defensed, a forced fumble and an interception @ Dal (11/23) on Thanksgiving Day notched a team-high 15 tackles in the NFC Championship Game @ NYG (1/14).

1999: Named second-team all-pro by the Associated Press led the team in interceptions for the first time in his career notched career-highs with 136 tackles and 4.0 sacks led all defensive backs in tackles, and ranked third on the team led team in tackles in four contests also led squad in turnovers forced during the postseason (interception vs. Dal (1/9); fumble recovery vs. StL (1/16) had a season-high 15 tackles, and a pressure vs. Chi (10/10) set career-high in solo tackles with 12 @ Det (10/17).

College:

A second-team All-WAC selection in 1992 totaled 20 passes defensed, and forced 15 fumbles in three seasons at San Diego State tied for team lead with two fumble recoveries his senior season also finished second on team in tackles with 97 as a senior played a hybrid linebacker-safety position during college.

Personal:

Full name Robert Otis Griffith earned All-CIF honors in football and track at Mt.
