Robert L. Heath is the Senior Vice President for Governance Development at the Via Christi Health System. His responsibilities are to assist and support the President and Chief Executive Officer in governance development at the System and operating entities to include consistency of organizational documents, clarity of decision making authority, board member orientation and education and other matters of governance. Mr. Heath also has responsibility for the Via Christi insurance program, including the operation of its off shore insurance company, Sunflower Assurance, Ltd.
Prior to this appointment Mr. Heath was the Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel at Via Christi. He provided legal counsel to the Corporation and Boards of Directors; coordinated legal services for major projects and transactions, and managed the legal affairs of the organization, to include the overseeing of outside counsel relationships on behalf of Via Christi.
Before joining Via Christi Mr. Heath worked as General Counsel to the CSJ Health System and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita, Kansas. In this role he served as the internal transaction counsel for the consolidation of the CSJ Health System and the SSM Ministry Corporation, which became Via Christi.
Previously, Mr. Heath practiced law as special counsel to the law firm of Foulston Siefkin, LLC, Wichita, Kansas, and as a partner in the firm of Jochems, Sargent and Blaes.
Mr. Heath has served as President of the Kansas Association of Hospital Attorneys and president of the Health Law Section of the Kansas Bar. He has also served on the government relations committee of the Catholic Health Association and the board of governors of the Wichita Bar Association.
Mr. Heath is admitted to practice before all courts of record and all administrative tribunals for the State of Kansas; is authorized to practice in the United States Court of Appeals and the United State Supreme Court. He is a member of the Kansas and Wichita Bar Association as well as the American Health Layers Association. Mr. Heath received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economic science form the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana and his juris doctorate from Washburn University School of Law, Topeka, Kansas.
Mr. Heath has served on various non profit boards including acute care hospitals and foundations, and also served as an adjunct faculty member, Newman University, Wichita, Kansas. |
