Robert E. Sanchez is Executive Vice President of Operations of U.S. Fleet Management Solutions (FMS) for Ryder System, Inc., a Fortune 500 global transportation and supply chain management solutions company. In this position, he is responsible for all U.S. FMS operations. This includes responsibility for a fleet of more than 145,000 vehicles, more than 800 maintenance facilities, and more than 350 truck rental operations. He is a member of Ryder’s Executive Leadership Team. Most recently, Mr. Sanchez was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Ryder, where he was responsible for all technology-related functions. He led the improvement of efficiencies in the Information Technology (IT) organization, reducing annual operating costs by $45 million. Prior to this appointment, he was Senior Vice President of Global Transportation Management, a Ryder business segment that provides global shipment planning, mode and carrier selection, tender and dispatch, expediting, visibility and freight brokerage services for over $1.5 billion of annual transportation spend from major corporate clients worldwide. Mr. Sanchez served in this position immediately following his first-time appointment as CIO. Prior to that appointment, he was Vice President of Asset Management, responsible for establishing an organization, processes and technology for centrally optimizing the lifecycle management of the Company’s $5 billion of vehicle and non-vehicle assets. Mr. Sanchez joined Ryder in 1993 as Senior Business System Designer for the Company’s IT department, where he helped implement an innovative system to improve the management of the Company’s extensive fleet of vehicles and equipment. He has also served with distinction in a number of capacities within Ryder, including Finance Director, Global Pricing Director and Manager of Strategic Planning. Prior to joining Ryder in 1993, Mr. Sanchez served two years as an applications engineer at Florida Power and Light. He also served as Manager of Hardware Design at Miami Voice Corporation in 1988 and as a Controls Engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1987. Mr. Sanchez served as Chair of the 2003 Ryder United Way Campaign and is a member of the United Way Leadership Circle and 2005 Miami-Dade United Way campaign cabinet. He is the Chairman of the Scholarship Foundation for the Association of Cuban Engineers. He was the recipient of the 2001 ACE Engineer of the Year Award and the 2002 Young Hispanic Leadership Award. Mr. Sanchez earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Computer Science from the University of Miami.
