Robert E. Forrest is a Member of Kerr, Russell and Weber, PLC. Mr. Forrest specializes in the litigation of civil and criminal tax controversies with the federal and state government, as well as the litigation of complex commercial disputes. He has extensive civil and criminal trial experience. He also has participated in numerous administrative and regulatory investigations involving other agencies of the federal and state governments. He primarily represents both large and small corporations, their officers, and business professionals in difficult tax matters.
Mr. Forrest served as a trial attorney for the Criminal Section, Tax Division, United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., from 1975 until 1981 where he was responsible for reviewing and prosecuting criminal tax cases throughout the country. He received an Outstanding Attorney Award from the Justice Department’s Tax Division in 1979. Before joining the Justice Department, Mr. Forrest was a judicial clerk to the Honorable June L. Green, United States District Judge for the District of Columbia.
A 1974 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Forrest received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Northwestern University in 1971. At Georgetown, he was an editor of the Law Review.
Since entering private practice, Mr. Forrest has been a member of the Board of Directors and is a past president of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter. He is currently a trustee of the Federal Bar Foundation. Mr. Forrest also serves as trustee and chairman of the legal committee for the Academy of Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Since 1987, Mr. Forrest has been an Adjunct Professor of Taxation at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, teaching a two credit practice and procedure course to third year and fourth year students in the Winter semester. Mr. Forrest is also the author of many articles and publications, including Attorneys Still a Target of Opportunity for the IRS, Laches (Oakland County Bar Journal), April 2000 and Pitfalls to Avoid in Taxation of Judgments and Settlements, Macomb County Bar Journal, January 2005.
Mr. Forrest is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and a member of its Tax Section, a member of the American Bar Association and its Tax Section, and a member of the Oakland County Bar Association where he is a past chairman of the Oakland County Bar Association Tax Committee. He is also admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. |
