Bob Hammond joined STI in 1987 as the company’s tenth employee. As Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Hammond is responsible for the overall technical direction of the company and for management of the company’s research and advanced product development.
Under Dr. Hammond’s leadership, STI has pioneered the development of thallium compound (TBCCO) thin films, compact high-temperature superconductor (HTS) wireless filters, and a long-life, low-cost Stirling cryocooler each with patented designs and manufacturing processes. Dr. Hammond’s first position at STI was as Manager of Technology Programs, a job he held until his promotion to CTO in August 1990. He has served in other senior roles at STI as well, including as acting President from 1991 to 1992 and as Corporate Secretary from 1999 to 2001. Prior to joining STI, Dr. Hammond worked for eleven years at Los Alamos National Laboratory, first as a staff member and later as Deputy Group Leader for Electronics Research and Development. While at Los Alamos, he established and built a semiconductor physics and device development group and pursued his own research in solid state electronics and optics.
Dr. Hammond holds thirteen patents and has authored over one hundred technical papers. He is a member of the American Physical Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received the Los Alamos National Laboratory Distinguished Performance Award in 1984 and The Outstanding Paper Award of the IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference in 1986. Dr. Hammond holds a B.S. degree in physics and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in applied physics and from the California Institute of Technology. |
