Sir Richard joined the Board in September 2003. He was appointed Senior Independent Director on 1 September 2004.
Sir Richard is Chairman of Arriva PLC and was previously the Executive Chairman of HM Customs and Excise from 2000 to 2003. He was formerly a member of the Group Executive Committee of Schroders PLC and a Non-executive Director of the Securities Institute.
Sir Richard is Chairman of the Board Risk Committee and Chairman of the Board HR and Remuneration Committee. He is also a member of the Board Corporate Governance and Nominations Committee.
