Rick Braun is a managing director in the Transaction Advisory Services group of FTI’s Corporate Finance practice and is based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Braun’s responsibilities include litigation support and expert witness testimony; damages calculations; the issuance of business valuation opinions; the design and valuation of equity securities including stock, partnerships, options, and other business interests; the analysis of liabilities including debt, lease obligations, and contingent liabilities; the quantification of economic damages; the determination of premiums and discounts; valuations for tax-related matters such as estate and gift tax; the issuance of fair market value, solvency, and fairness opinions; and the analysis of Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) transactions.
Mr. Braun has 22 years of experience in the business valuation profession. He is a past chair and current member of the Valuation Advisory Committee of the ESOP Association and has earned the designation Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers. Mr. Braun has been involved in the analysis, structure, and valuation of a wide range of transactions involving both public and privately held companies. He has advised business owners, management, employee groups, institutional trustees, lenders, unions, and a variety of investors in connection with numerous transactions. In addition, he has provided valuation advice in matters related to business recapitalizations, reorganizations, and bankruptcy.
Mr. Braun has provided litigation support and expert witness testimony on various matters including the fair market value of companies and business units; the value of debt and equity securities; the value of goodwill and other intangible assets; the solvency of a proposed transaction; the appropriateness and application of premiums and discounts; the fairness of an ESOP transaction; and the determination of economic damages. He has testified or been deposed in California, New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, Tennessee, Louisiana, Missouri, and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Braun’s valuation assignments have included companies in a wide range of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, retail, commercial and residential construction, engineering, professional services, transportation, communications, textiles and apparel, government and defense contracting, natural resources, and waste management. He has also occasionally provided valuation services to government agencies including the Department of Labor and the Internal Revenue Service.
Prior to joining FTI, he was a principal with Willamette Management Associates in McLean, VA, and a managing director with Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin in Los Angeles, CA. In addition, he has served on the board of directors for several privately held companies. Mr. Braun has written business valuation articles for various publications as well as contributing to several books on business valuation. He has made presentations regarding business valuation to business owners, employees, attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and investment bankers. He has also spoken at various conferences and seminars including the ESOP Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership, and the American Society of Appraisers. |
