Richard T. Matthews is a patent attorney in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Matthews worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Inc. managing several phase three pharmaceutical clinical trials. During law school, he worked as a patent agent in addition to interning for the Honorable Susan G. Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Matthews has also clerked in the International Trade Commission’s Office of Unfair Import Investigation and has lectured on patent law at Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering.
Mr. Matthews received a Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell University in 2004, a Masters of Law degree in Intellectual Property from The George Washington University School of Law in 2005, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a focus in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. He also participated in a research fellowship at the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University.
Mr. Matthews is admitted to the North Carolina and Virginia State Bars and the District of Columbia Bar. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Triangle Intellectual Property Association, the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association, the Licensing Executive Society, and the Federal Circuit Bar Association. He also is currently a member of the IPO Litigation Committee and the AIPLA Litigation Committee. |
