Richard Victoria Biography :

Richard T. Victoria is a partner of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP and a member of the firm's Litigation Section. His practice focuses upon insurance coverage, business and commercial disputes, post-employment restraints, and appellate advocacy. He is a member of the firm’s Hiring Committee and the partner in charge of the firm’s Summer Associate program. Mr. Victoria is a member of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Group and has successfully represented entities and individuals seeking defense and/or payment of claims under a wide range of insurance policies, including comprehensive general liability, excess and umbrella, directors and officers, errors and omissions, business, homeowners, life and health, disability, and employers’ practices liability insurance. In instances where an insurer’s conduct is particularly egregious or in violation of policyholder rights, Mr. Victoria aggressively pursues bad faith insurance practices claims on behalf of his clients. Additionally, he counsels individuals and businesses in the process of soliciting and securing insurance coverage, providing guidance and identifying potential pitfalls associated with coverages offered by insurers and their agents and brokers. In addition to his insurance coverage practice, Mr. Victoria has an active business litigation practice in which he counsels and represents individuals and entities in an array of business disputes, including those involving sales agreements, commercial loans and leases, UCC leases, and non-compete agreements. His representation of business interests extends to tort based claims such as negligence, fraud, and interference with contractual relations. In his related appellate practice, Mr. Victoria has succeeded in having both favorable decisions upheld and adverse decisions reversed, including the case of Green Valley v. Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation, 832 A. 2d 1143 (Pa. Commw. 2003). Mr. Victoria is the author of Insurance Law Notes, a legal blog dedicated to issues and cases arising in Pennsylvania insurance coverage law. He is also an Associate Editor of the American Bar Association Section of Litigations' Litigation Update, in which he contributes to the monthly "Sidebar" column. Additionally, he has written, co-written, and lectured on a variety of topics in insurance coverage, restrictive covenants, export regulations, and international business and his articles have been published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mealey’s Litigation Reports: Insurance, The Journal of Insurance Coverage, and Western Pennsylvania Hospital News. A native of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Mr. Victoria graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1992, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration with High Honors in Finance and Business Economics. In 1995, Mr. Victoria received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University School of Law. He is admitted to practice before the courts of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Allegheny County, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and American Bar Associations. As a father of three young children and City of Pittsburgh resident, Mr. Victoria’s community involvement focuses upon keeping Pittsburgh an inviting, enriching, and safe place to live and raise a family. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Greenfield Organized Against Drugs, a community based organization dedicated to preventing drug use by providing educational experiences, such as the Allegheny County Reality Tour, and support to children and young adults along with their parents and guardians. Mr. Victoria is a former member of and current volunteer for the Board of Directors for the Renaissance City Wind Music Society, has served as a volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Special Olympics, and Presents for Patients, and has participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Lock Up fundraising program.
