Richard Mansfield has more than 25 years of experience consulting in human resource management and development, with a particular interest in the determinants of excellent performance in the workplace. His consulting focuses on the development of assessment tools and processes, and training materials to support human resource and organizational development. He has directed Leadership Communications’ competency research and client assessment applications.
Richard began his career at Temple University, where he taught human development and statistics, published in the area of scientific creativity. His research on creative scientists led him to consulting in the emerging area of competency modeling. In 1981 he joined McBer and Company, an international human resource management consulting firm, where he became Director of Research. In 1989, Richard became a Vice President at The Altwell Group, a consulting firm specializing in organizational improvement and change management.
Since 1990, he has worked as an independent consultant in many projects utilizing his assessment expertise. At Fannie Mae, for example, he developed leadership competency models for officers and directors and created HR applications in 360 feedback, leadership development, leadership selection, and performance review and appraisal. For Millennium Pharmaceuticals, he developed a competency model for senior leaders, together with instruments for 360 feedback and selection interviewing.
Richard has extensive international experience working with companies such as ICI, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, ITT, Lucas Industries, Pertamina, Gemini Consulting, Texaco, Towers Perrin, and the Hay Group. He was project manager for a research project sponsored by the U. S. Agency for International Development, and conducted in India, Malawi and Ecuador, to identify the competencies of successful entrepreneurs in developing countries. With Cornelius Grove he developed the Survey of International Relocation Adaptability, a multi-rater survey used to assess an individual’s likelihood of successful adapting to a work assignment requiring international relocation.
Richard holds an A. B. in Social Relations and an Ed.D. in Human Development, both from Harvard University. |
