Dr. Richard Lawn, Vice President of Discovery Research, joined CV Therapeutics in 1997. From 1990 to 1998, Dr. Lawn served as a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. During that time, Dr. Lawn served on a part-time basis as Vice President of Molecular Cardiology, from 1992 until 1997. Before that, Dr. Lawn was a senior scientist and later, a staff scientist at Genentech, Inc.
Dr. Lawn has pioneered the cloning of genes involved in coagulation and heart disease, including globin genes and genes for anti-hemophilia Factor VIII. In 1999, he was awarded the 1999 Distinguished Inventor Award, given by the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), for the development of functional human factor VIII for improving the treatment of patients with hemophilia.
Dr. Lawn was a postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology and received a PhD in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from the University of Colorado and a BA in astronomy from Harvard College.
