Richard J. Grossi is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the United Illuminating Company, an investor-owned electric utility based in New Haven, Connecticut. He retired as Chairman of the Board in 1999. His career with United Illuminating spanned over forty years, during which he assumed increasing management responsibilities in the areas of engineering, corporate planning, and operations. He is a Director and Past Chairman of the New York Independent System Operator Board of Directors and Chairman and President of Science Park Development Corporation in New Haven. He also serves on the Boards of The Arts Council of Greater New Haven and the University of Connecticut Foundation. Mr. Grossi has received numerous awards for his leadership in business and community activities, including the Anti-Defamation League Community Service Award, and was inducted into the University of Connecticut School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 2003.
Mr. Grossi joined the Board of Directors of New Haven Savings Bank in 1989. His term on the NewAlliance Board expires at the 2008 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.
