Born in 1963, Richard was reared in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After graduating from The University of Georgia in 1985, Richard took a job as a manager trainee with his family’s garage door business Amarr.
He spent the first five years of his career in the field working at Amarr Door Centers in Nashville, Tennessee, and Riviera Beach, Florida, and then building and running a wood door plant in Birmingham, Alabama. Richard returned to Winston-Salem in 1990 and started Amarr’s Marketing Department, later becoming Vice President of Sales and Operations. He became Executive Vice President in 1992, President in 1993 and Chief Executive Officer in 2002.
Richard serves on a number of civic and professional boards, including the Door and Access Systems Association International (DASMA), and Idealliance, a not-for-profit organization that promotes academic, industry and government collaboration in biotech, pharmaceutical, medical devices and information technology. |
