Reed Aljian Biography :

Reed T. Aljian is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, based in the Firm’s Orange Country office. He is a member of the Trial Department and has extensive experience in all phases of litigation.

Reed’s practice is primarily focused on complex litigation, including actions involving securities, intellectual property, health care, insurance coverage and complex commercial contract claims. He has successfully defended numerous class actions and other litigation in federal and state courts around the country. Reed also has wide-ranging experience in other areas of litigation, including representing a diverse client base as both plaintiff and defendant in a variety of actions at all stages of litigation, including at trial, on appeal and at mediation.

Of Reed’s notable litigation victories includes the successful representation at trial of a large national financial institution in a $700 million breach of contract action. The client obtained a verdict on all claims, including being awarded damages on all counterclaims, as well as attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses.

Among other successes, Reed was a member of the trial team that ultimately secured the single largest award ever for a Public Counsel pro bono consumer case. For his efforts representing that client, Public Counsel recognized Reed as its 2005 Consumer Law Project Volunteer of the Year.

Prior to joining the Firm, Reed was a member of a large international law firm in its Los Angeles office, where he was a member of the firm’s general litigation and trial practices group.

During law school, Reed worked as a law clerk in the Enforcement Division of the Securities & Exchange Commission in its Pacific Regional Office and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Dickran Tevrizian, Jr., United States District Court Judge, Central District of California.

Prior to law school, Reed worked for several years in sales, marketing, and advertising for minor league baseball teams in Arizona and Texas. He also played professional baseball in the California Angels baseball organization. A catcher, Reed was a member of the Northwest League Champion Boise Hawks in Boise, Idaho and the Lake Elsinore Storm in Lake Elsinore, California.
