Dr. Withy has over twenty years experience in the biotechnology industry. He was, most recently, President and Chief Executive Officer of Abgenix, Inc until his retirement in 2004. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Abgenix until June 2005. As one of the cofounders of Abgenix in 1996, Dr. Withy initially served as its vice-president, business development, then its Chief Business Officer and then President before becoming its CEO. Prior to the founding of Abgenix, Dr.Withy held various business development positions at Cell Genesys, Inc.. From 1991 to 1993, Dr. Withy was a consultant to the industry in the areas of business development and strategic planning. Dr. Withy held various research and development positions at Genzyme Corp and Integrated Genetics which he joined in 1984. Dr. Withy received a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, both from the University of Nottingham, UK and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the California Institute of Technology. |
