Ray is one of the original members of the McNamee Lawrence & Co. team and has been instrumental in growing MLC from its early entrepreneurial beginnings to its present international reach. Ray draws on an extensive background in both investment banking and corporate law, and has a broad range of experience in the technology sector particularly in the software space. Areas of particular focus include enterprise software, including through a hosted or on-premise delivery model and involving SaaS based revenue models. Representative transactions while at MLC have included the sales of Propero to VMWare, Salesnet to RightNow Technologies, iPhrase to IBM, and MarketSoft to Unica, and the private placement funding of LogMeIn. Ray also plays a significant role in MLC’s international investment banking efforts with a particular focus on Scandinavia.
Ray joined McNamee Lawrence & Co. from JPMorgan H&Q (formerly Hambrecht & Quist) where he was part of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group. While at JPMorgan H&Q, Ray participated in numerous mergers & acquisitions, equity offerings and venture capital financings with various software and communications companies. Notable M&A deals included advising 4Front Technologies on its sale to NCR Corp. in 2000 and advising NetGenesis on its sale to SPSS in 2001.
Prior to joining JPMorgan H&Q, Ray was a corporate attorney at the law firm of Bingham LLP in Boston, practicing in the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions and Entrepreneurial Services Groups. While at Bingham, Ray worked on a number of M&A transactions, venture capital financings, leveraged buy-outs and high-yield debt offerings. Notable transactions included the sale of RealWorld Corp. to Great Plains Software and Raytheon’s acquisition of Allied Signal’s communications systems business. Prior to Bingham, Ray clerked for a United States district judge in Connecticut. Ray received a B.A. from Connecticut College and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law and is a member of the state bars of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, D.C. Ray also holds Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses. |
