Ms. Snyder heads Liskow & Lewis’s employee benefits practice group. In her practice, she provides consultation, planning and advice on all tax and ERISA aspects of employee pension and profit sharing plans, employee health and welfare benefit plans and nonqualified deferred compensation and incentive compensation plans. She also counsels and advises on the formation and operation of tax-exempt organizations, including IRC 501(c)(3) public and private foundations.Ms. Snyder’s representative matters include:Design and drafting of individualized qualified pension, profit sharing, cash or deferred 401(k), and employee stock ownership (ESOP) plans and trusts for corporate, partnership, LLC and sole proprietor business clientsPreparation and submission of applications to Internal Revenue Service for qualified plan favorable determination letters Consultation and review with regard to the adoption and implementation of financial institution standardized and nonstandardized prototype plans for prototype plan adopters Design and drafting of 403(b) tax deferred annuity plans and 457 deferred compensation plans for tax exempt and governmental unit clients Design and drafting of nonqualified deferred compensation and incentive compensation plans including:top-hat deferred compensation plans, supplemental executive retirement plans (SERPs), equity compensation plans, phantom stock plans, stock option plans and related rabbi trusts and secular trusts Consultation, planning, and advice regarding employee welfare benefit plans and fringe benefit plans. These include insured, partially insured and self-funded health plans and related COBRA and HIPAA compliance; life insurance plans; short-term and long-term disability plans; cafeteria plans, including flexible benefit, reimbursement account, and premium only plans and other employee fringe benefit arrangements Consultation and advice in connection with all aspects of the maintenance and the on-going operation of the above plans, including: Internal Revenue Code and ERISA general compliance and new law compliance; plan eligibility, benefits, distributions and claims; plan, employer and participant tax consequences; reporting and disclosure; fiduciary monitoring and requirements; and prohibited transaction issues and exemptions Represent clients in connection with IRS employee benefit plan voluntary compliance resolution (VCR) programs and closing agreement programs (CAP) and represent clients in connection with IRS and Department of Labor employee benefit plan reviews and audits Assist clients in the establishment and on-going operation of annual plan self-audit programs and related self-correction programs in compliance with IRS issued guidelines to safeguard plan qualified status Consultation and review in connection with employee benefit plan mergers, combinations, and terminations in general and when arising in connection with company reorganizations Provide technical ERISA and employee benefit support and advice to the firm’s litigation attorneys in connection with employment and employee benefit-related litigation Counsel employer-sponsor clients regarding employee benefit claims, benefit claim denials and related appeals. Advise regarding ERISA claims procedure provisions and administration Review and advise with regard to the adoption and implementation of simplified employee pension (SEP) plans, SIMPLE IRA plans and SIMPLE 401(k) plans for the smaller business client Advise individual clients with regard to all aspects of qualified and nonqualified retirement plan benefits and IRA benefits, including related distribution planning, tax planning and estate planning Provide ERISA and employee benefit plan design and operation-related advice to various accountant and other benefit consultant clients in connection with various projects Formation of 501(c)(3) charitable/educational organizations, supporting organizations, and private foundations, obtaining related IRS tax exemption letters and providing on-going related advice Ms. Snyder, a board member of the Association of Employee Benefit Planners of New Orleans, frequently speaks on panels and at programs dealing with employee benefits issues for a range of industries and companies.
