Randy Carlyle Biography :

Finished 2005-2006 with a 43-27-12 record and 98 standings points in his first season as Ducks/NHL head coach. Led the Ducks to the Western Conference Finals in his first season. Carlyle earned his first career Ducks/NHL head coaching win Oct. 5 @ CHI.

Under his guidance last season, the Ducks set club records for most standings points (98), most wins (43) and most home wins (26)

Carlyle was named the seventh head coach in team history on August 1, 2005.

Carlyle, 49, spent the 2004-05 season as head coach of the Manitoba Moose, Vancouver’s primary development affiliate in the AHL) In 2004-2005, he led Manitoba to a 44-26-3-7 record (.613 winning percentage) and an appearance in the Calder Cup Semi-Finals.

In all, Carlyle spent six seasons (1996-2001 & 2004-2005) as head coach in Manitoba (both in the International and American Hockey Leagues), earning a career mark of 222-159-52-7 with the franchise. He had the additional duties of General Manager of the Moose from 1996-2000, adding the title of club President for the 2001-2002 season. The Sudbury, Ontario, native helped the Moose to a 47-21-14 record for 108 points in 1998-99, for which he was named the IHL’s General Manager of the Year.

Following the 2001-2002 season, Carlyle joined the coaching staff of the Washington Capitals. He served as an assistant coach with Washington for two years (2002-2004), helping the organization return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his first season there, before rejoining Manitoba in 2003-2004.

Carlyle played 17 seasons in the NHL with Toronto, Pittsburgh and Winnipeg. He appeared in 1055 games and earned 148-499=647 points. Known as a fiery, tough-nosed defenseman, he was selected to play in four NHL All-Star Games, winning the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman in 1981. He set a career high with 82 points in 1980-81, appearing in 76 games with Pittsburgh that season. In all, Carlyle had five seasons in which he topped the 50-point plateau and he appeared in 69 NHL postseason games as a player, earning 9-24=33 points.

Randy and his wife, Corey, have three children. The family resides in Yorba Linda.
