Mr. Feldman directs the firm's estate planning practice and specializes in tax, estate planning, probate, and trust administration. His practice is primarily focused on representing individuals and families in the areas of wealth management, income, gift and estate tax planning, and philanthropy. He also represents individual and institutional fiduciaries in trust and estate administration and in dispute resolution, and has represented numerous clients in controversies with the Internal Revenue Service and California tax authorities. Estate Planning Mr. Feldman brings a multidisciplinary approach to his trusts and estates practice, advising clients in a variety of estate-planning opportunities. As a former CPA and with 25 years of professional experience, he brings a wide range of experience in counseling each client regarding strategies designed to minimize the impact of income, gift, and estate tax consequences, and to maximize personal financial security. Probate and Trust Administration Mr. Feldman has appeared in most of the probate courts in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as many probate courts statewide. He has represented numerous clients in audits and appeals before the IRS and other federal and California tax authorities. He represents both individual and institutional fiduciaries in the administration of estates, and the various trusts and family entities that are established during life. This representation extends to the preparation and defense of federal and California gift and estate tax returns, and representation in non-tax controversies, including will contests, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, lack of testamentary capacity, undue influence and fraud, creditor's claims, and surcharge actions. Tax Mr. Feldman counsels and represents clients in a variety of tax issues, including federal income, gift and estate taxes; California income, real property and transfer taxes; business taxes; and non-resident tax matters. His practice includes the preparation of gift and estate tax returns, and representation of clients in tax controversies with federal and California tax authorities. Professional Activities Mr. Feldman has served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of San Francisco Law School, where he taught classes in wills, trusts, and personal income taxation. He is past chair of the California Bar Association Estate and Gift Tax Committee and past member of the executive committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco Tax Section. From 2002-2004, Mr. Feldman served as the senior probate advisor to the California Bar Association's 9/11 Victims Project. He is currently a member of the San Francisco Estate Planning Council. Mr. Feldman also serves on the professional advisory committees of the Marin Community Foundation, the Jewish Community Federation Endowment, the San Francisco Ballet, and as pro bono counsel to several nonprofit arts and civic organizations. Mr. Feldman is a frequent speaker at various bar and estate planning educational institutes and meetings, and has published articles in several professional publications. He has recently presented to the California Bar Association, the California CPA Foundation Advanced Estate Planning Institute, the Practicing Law Institute Advanced Estate Planning Conference, and AFHE (Attorneys for Family Enterprises). |
