Peter Houghton is responsible for MacFarlane Partners’ urban investment activities in Southern California, which include building and maintaining business relationships with development partners as well as sourcing, negotiating and closing investments in real estate development, redevelopment and repositioning projects. He has nine years of real estate investment, development and management experience.Prior to joining MacFarlane Partners, Peter was vice president of acquisitions for Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds, a joint venture between Canyon Capital Realty Advisors and Earvin Magic Johnson based in Los Angeles that invests in urban real estate markets nationwide. He structured equity joint ventures, sourced acquisition and construction debt, and originated mezzanine and senior-secured bridge loans to create an urban real estate portfolio with a market value in excess of $2.7 billion. He also served on the venture’s investment committee.Peter previously was a project manager for LCOR, a national real estate development firm that specializes in public/private partnerships involving multifamily and commercial properties. While there, he was responsible for underwriting and financing more than $350 million in development projects on the West Coast through the use of lease-backed bonds, tax-increment financing, low-income housing tax credits and payment-in-lieu-of-taxes programs in collaboration with Lehman Brothers and J.P. Morgan.Peter began his real estate career as a senior real estate consultant for Ernst & Young Kenneth Leventhal, where he assisted clients in evaluating multi-asset portfolios and developing portfolio strategies. Before working in real estate, he was an architect, practicing primarily with the firm NBBJ in Seattle. Notable projects on which he worked included the Safeco Field baseball stadium in Seattle and the renovation and expansion of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.Peter is a member of both the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
