Mr Aven has been a member of the Board of Directors since July 2002 and was appointed Co-Chairman in December 2003. He is president of Alfa Bank, one of Russia’s largest commercial banks, where he is responsible for overall strategy and for relations with business and government leaders. An affiliate of Alfa Bank is one of CTC Media’s stockholders. Prior to joining Alfa Bank in 1994, Mr Aven was Minister of Foreign Economic Relations for the Russian Federation (1991 to 1992). He had previously worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria.
Mr Aven is an internationally recognized economist and the author of works on econometrics and Russian agricultural reform. He holds a Ph.D. in Econometrics from Moscow State University. Mr Aven is chairman of the Board of Directors of Golden Telecom, Inc., a telecommunications company based in Russia. He is also a trustee of the Board of the Russian Economics School and serves on the Board of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. |
